History of the 1972 Plymouth Scamp

The Plymouth Scamp appeared in the early 1970s as part of the Valiant-based lineup and shared its platform with the Dodge Dart. Produced as a two-door coupe, it reflected the era’s focus on compact yet performance-oriented designs. Many examples from 1972 carried V8 engines like the 318, which aligned with the muscle car styling cues still popular at the time.

The model year sits squarely in the 1970s, a period when American manufacturers emphasized bold colors, vinyl roofs, and straightforward mechanical layouts. The Scamp’s coupe proportions and available options made it a common sight on roads during that decade. Productions seeking vehicles that read as everyday transportation from the era can draw on this established identity without added fabrication.
